BAMBOO SPECIES
Unlike most bamboos, our tissue cultured Bambusa balcooa culms grow nearly solid - without genetic engineering.
BEEMA BAMBOO - BAMBUSA BALCOOA
Tissue cultured bamboo or Bambusa Balcooa is also known as Beema Bamboo. Its botanical name is Bambusa Balcooa Roxb. This bamboo grows thick in its culms and most times, even without any genetic engineering. Bambusa grows in humid climates. The fascinating fact about this variety is that it does not need replacement after every harvest as it regrows on its own. Also, for the dynamic properties that it has, it can adapt to various soil conditions. Though climate plays a vital role in its growth, this variety of bamboo is able to adapt to a changing climate as well.
It has an inconsiderable ash content which makes it the most preferred option for biomass feedstock for energy creation. Unlike other species of bamboo, it does not grow like a forest spreading across its base. Instead, a new plant regrows from the mother shoot and this way it does not affect the natural environment of the plantation.
The size and the weight of each plant give it firm support to withstand any harsh climate and strong winds. This means it is not easily breakable and is not as flexible as it can be to bend or bow down during winds. The hard inner core is another reason why this is easier to harvest. This property of the Bambusa balcooa makes it resistant to any pest attack making it viable and easy to harvest.

We at SRM Bio Tech are currently evaluating new bamboo species on suitabillity for commercial applications. For certain projects and topography and climate conditions, we are already able to supply other species.
More possibilitiesOur team invests a lot of time in studying botanical, chemical and mechanical characteristics as well as potentials and limits of other species, particularly from the genera Bambusa, Phyllostachys, Guadua, Dendrocalamus and Gigantochloa.
Come back here soon and let us introduce you to further high-performance, versatile bamboo species.
Bambusa tulda & Bambusa cacharensis
Bambusa Cacharensis
This kind of bamboo arises from a very intricate and long chain of family history of the Plantae species. To be precise, the family can be described as; Plantae – Tracheophyta – Liliopsida – Poales – Poaceae – Bambusa – Bambusa Cacharensis. This species of bamboo can be mainly found in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Calcutta, Assam, Manipur and Dehradun, but is also widely cultivated in other parts of the country.
This species is erect woody and does not have nodal roots. Unlike other types, the internodes of this plant are hollow and cylindrical. Bambusa Cacharensis is known for spreading its branches quickly. The unique property is that the culms are up to 2000 cm – 2100 cm in length, 50 mm – 100 mm in width.
Bambusa Tulda
This evergreen deciduous species of bamboo hails from the Poaceae family of Bambusa genus. It is otherwise called Dendrocalamus tulda. It is a clump-forming bamboo whose stems grow up to 6 m to 20 m in length. It grows in valleys, plains and along streams. Tulda is green in colour and rises to become greyish-green once it matures.
Bambusa Tulda is widely used in the paper industry and grows best in fertile land. Bambusa tulda is used for construction, making furniture, utensils, handicrafts and other household items. Due to its flexibility, it is also called spineless bamboo. The solid culms available make it act as strong timber. This species of bamboo requires a pH range of 5-6. Each of its plants is said to give out new stems annually.
The flexibility and the nature of its growth make it a viable source for creating various products. The need for bamboo and its products can solve multiple environmental issues.
