The department of Biotechnology has conducted its second guest lecture on 20th December 2019for 1st year B.Sc., biotechnology students. Dr. E. Sumathi, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, University of Madras, Chennai. The Head of the Department Dr. T. Sekar gave a brief introduction about the guest Dr. E. Sumathi. Later, Dr. Sumathidelivered her lecture on“Electrophoresis – Basics principles and applications” and explained how macromolecules could be separated based on their size using electric field. She also focused on the application of electrophoresis in molecular genetics, especially in the PCR based techniques such as DNA fingerprintingand analysis of genetic markers in several disease diagnostics. The lecture was concluded with the queries section. Later, the session was ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. A. Rajasekar, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, SRM IST, Ramapuram, Chennai.
